Whales Off Byron Bay

Pipeline on the north shore of Oahu where Hami...Image via WikipediaYesterday I saw Whales Off Byron Bay heading north towards the Great Barrier Reef.  I was surfing my old local surf break the Rivermouth at Suffolk park with a close friend when he said "Look there's a whale!"
And yes, to my amazement there was a large pod about 100 metres off the beach!
There was some amazing breaches and tail slaps!
Yes, there were plenty of dolphins in the water too!
What a day! Whales, dolphins and some surf too!

Humpback Whales Visit The Gold Coast

Humpback Whales Visit The Gold Coast and make a great show with deep dives, tail slaps and large jumps that make a whale of a splash.

Today a large pod passed the Goldy 7 nautical miles north east of the seaway and all the boats have been out to see them put on a show.
The Humpbacks travel north from Antarctica but  don't eat a thing on the way!

Whales Migrate to The Great Barrier Reef

Cover of Whale (Eyewitness)Yes the Whales are about to Migrate to The Great Barrier Reef and I have just heard reports that  the first sightings have been seen off Sydney.
I wonder if the Whales know too that it' going to be an extra cold winter with snow already on the Snowy mountains!
Yes, it has been a little chilly even where I am on the Gold Coast 500 kilometers south of the Reef.

Record numbers of Whales especially Humpbacks are expected to travel north and I must say the Whale counters are super excited as they have new technology to count the heard as they travel north to warm tropical waters to give birth.
Many stop at Harvey Bay in the calm waters and some travel as far as the Whitsundays and Cairns!
